Effects Of World War II

World War II had many effects for Britain and indeed the rest of the world.

In Britain the war had huge effects on the people, industry etc. The industry of Britain had been altered severely during the war to boost the production of munitions, tanks for the European Theatre. Also earlier in the conflict the aviation industry was concentrating at building as many Spitfires and Hurricanes to defend Britain from the onslaught of German Bombers. After the Battle Of Britain the aviation industry then concentrated on building heavy bombers such as the Lancaster and Halifax to crush the German Industry in the Ruhr.

Extensive Bombing had also affected most countries that were involved in the conflict; the only exception being the United States. Britain had been bombed by the Germans in the Battle Of Britain, known as the Blitz. Britain retaliated with the Americans in Day and night raids aimed at crushing the German Industry. The main targets where the Ruhr industrial area. A famous raid by the Avro Lancaster, piloted by WC Guy Gibson, was the attacks on the Ruhr Dams where 617 Squadron (the dambusters) attacked three German dams and destroyed two of them. This then flooded the industry below. Bombing had a very large effect and was used to its full potential throughout the war.

Britain owed the United States lots of money, which they are still repaying today. That is why Britain and America are such strong allies
